It became wilder as the day progressed today with the Southerly winds increasing in strength along with the precipitation. Drifting snow at the higher elevations with unstable windslab quickly developing in sheltered areas. Heavy rain at lower levels made for a dreich day!

The snowpack had a slight re freeze last night producing a thin crust. Today, poor visibility and milder conditions with rain at 900 metres.

Lower ski tows in Glen Coe  -  plenty of snow

Little Change to snowpack.

Good cover in the ski area. I only managed to get one picture before the cloud came down and visibility was lost. There has been little change in the snowpack over the past few days, at lower levels it slowly thaws, and at higher levels gets topped up from time to time.

Still snowy on the Tops.

Still plenty of snow above 800 metres in Glen Coe.  The freezing level was about 900 metres, with showers through the day.

Point 902. The weather had come in a bit my this time.

I spotted some avalanche activity which probably occurred last night as the freezing level rose above the tops. Here an avalanche can be just about be made out running down from the left hand side of the crags to disappear behind the  near hillside.

Not a photography day.

I doubt that I will be winning many prizes with todays pictures, condition were less than optimal for photography. However, I think that they will show you how much snow there is. These pictures were taken around 800 metres, on Buchaille Etive Beag, what a contrast to the conditions that I found up there last Sunday. 

Full winter

Winter conditions arrived with high avalanche hazard, watch out for the warming trend tomorrow. Remember to look at the SAIS forecast.

 Meall a Bhuiridh was still looking reasonably white.

A lovely group of 8 Ptarmigan (4 in this photo) were seen at about 700m on the way up the hill, and later a Mountain Hare.

Dusting of fresh

There was a dusting of fresh snow on the hills last night. It was windy on the tops, but the rain stayed off until I was on on my way back down the hill.
