Still snowy on the Tops.

Still plenty of snow above 800 metres in Glen Coe.  The freezing level was about 900 metres, with showers through the day.

Some visibility today.

Walkers heading down the West Ridge of Meall a Bhuiridh towards Creise.

Meall a Bhuridh and Creise from the road.

I spotted some avalanche activity which probably occurred last night as the freezing level rose above the tops. Here an avalanche can be just about be made out running down from the left hand side of the crags to disappear behind the  near hillside.

Not a photography day.

I doubt that I will be winning many prizes with todays pictures, condition were less than optimal for photography. However, I think that they will show you how much snow there is. These pictures were taken around 800 metres, on Buchaille Etive Beag, what a contrast to the conditions that I found up there last Sunday.

Full winter

Winter conditions arrived with high avalanche hazard, watch out for the warming trend tomorrow. Remember to look at the SAIS forecast.

Mild again.

Plenty of water coming off the hill in the mild conditions.

Meall a Bhuiridh was still looking reasonably white.

The view from my snowpit site at about 900 metres.

A lovely group of 8 Ptarmigan (4 in this photo) were seen at about 700m on the way up the hill, and later a Mountain Hare.

Dusting of fresh

There was a dusting of fresh snow on the hills last night. It was windy on the tops, but the rain stayed off until I was on on my way back down the hill.

Getting wetter...

In the past couple of days conditions in Glen Coe have gone from mild and damp, to mild, windy and really wet. The forecast for tomorrow is slightly less mild, very windy and equally as wet. The joys of Glen Coe weather.
Lots of water, a fair bit of windy and some wet snow. This picture was taken before the really heavy rain came on.

My first attempt at a snow pit, it immediately filled up with about 15cm of water, you can see the water level on the shovel. Last nights fresh snow can be seen sitting on top of the older snow in the back wall of the pit.

Another mild wet day in Glen Coe

Plenty of water in the burns.

And when the mist cleared not much snow to be seen in Coire nan Lochan.
